| EDIT: The DSi also includes an SD Card slot. DS has been able to use Download Station with Wii through Nintendo Channel for a while now. The software is also upgradable over Wi-Fi.
The DSi will be a complete flop. GBA slot was dropped which removes backwards compatability with any system. Camera will be grainy, identical to a cell phone camera. PictoChat is pointless until I can use it across Wi-Fi. I cannot remember the time I actually USED PictoChat. Only 18 recordings of a maximum 10 seconds.
The only real advantage I see to getting the DSi is the new possibilities for homebrew with the SD slot. I am also looking forward to the DSi shop, as they may offer GB and GBA games for download there in the future. I also cannot wait to see what developers put up for download in DSiWare, as I have been enjoying much of these titles, including World of Goo.
I'm going to have to pass on this one until I see what Nintendo does with it.

| BigAl, you're completely wrong about the system going to be a complete flop. It's going to sell like hotcakes, just like the DS Lite is doing right now. It's already sold 1.28 million in Japan, and that number is gonna continue to grow as it's released in other countries this year. Anyway, I'm personally looking forward to this. It could kind of be like an iPod Touch, at least I think that Nintendo is looking to semi-compete with it, by having apps and such. But it should be cool, I'll be selling my DS Lite for it. The GBA slot doesn't have much impact on me, I have a DS Phat for that I guess. | |

Well, the Wii has apps, but you have to buy them...lol virtual console. So maybe Nintendo is going to incorporate Virtual Console into the DSi

| Nah, they aren't apps, they're games. WiiWare and Virtual Console titles, and Wii Channels which are kinda considered apps, but not really.
And they are putting WiiWare DSi titles on the DSi, but not Virtual Console titles, I believe.

| My biggest complaint is the removal of the GBA. As well as im hearing it doesn't support mp3 files. I haven't read anything about the software. Feel free to correct me. | |

But it should be cool, I'll be selling my DS Lite for it. The GBA slot doesn't have much impact on me, I have a DS Phat for that I guess. Your statistic is a little off. They DS Lite has sold over 18 million in Japan and 75 million worldwide. It repeated just what the SP did, made it slimmer and added a better backlight (in comparison to no backlight on the GBA). Then the Gameboy Micro came along and effed things up. No one needed something that small and the system failed. Barely sold 2 million worldwide. I really see no benefit to owning a DSi. It's a DS with the GBA port ripped out and a camera slapped on it. DS Browser isn't up to par with Opera Mini. DSiWare may be fun, but it'll be neglected like WiiWare. Granted, Nintendo will keep it interesting with VC (they'll have to do it eventually), but that still doesn't convince me. The DSi is going to attract dumb casual gamers. I'll get a chuckle out of this when I come back and view this post in a year or so.

| IMO the DSi is just another way to part cash from the casual gamer. The cameras are extremely low resolution and the 'larger' screens are at the same resolution still resulting in just a slightly more pixelated picture for users. I'm still chugging along happily with my original chunky DS - I've had absolutely no obligation to upgrade whatsoever and have no plans of doing so. Ultimately, Nintendo released the DSi to curb game piracy by not allowing custom game cards such as R4 to work on the new hardware. | |
